Vintage Brass Lens
Question about a vintage Nikomat EL…?
I have a Nikomat EL that I bought in Japan in 1975. I have been told that Nikon sold this model in the US as a Nikon, and that the EL model with a Nikomat label is rare.
Nikon aficionados: Is this true?
I haven’t used it for a few years, but it is in fine working condition. It has a few minor dings, but no damage. Brass shows at the edges, evidence of its extensive use in many countries for 20+ years. It has a 43-86 slide zoom lens, also in very nice shape. Black body. Do you think it is worth anything? Any historical background would be appreciated. Many thanks.

They didn’t use the name Nikon till 1977.
Only collectors are interested in these cameras these days and they all want mint ones, dings and brassing will seriously reduce its value (may be as low as only 10% of the value of a mint one).
One thing you can do is go on eBay select advanced search, type in Nikomat EL, check the completed listings only box and press enter.
The list will show all listings for that camera over the last few months, whether they sold or not and if so how much they realised.
