A Tripod Dilemma… ie, which tripod?
I can’t really decide between the Velbon CX 888 and the Velbon CX 480.
The 888 is $20 more.

As was said before, if you have a good camera, you need a strong tripod.
Apart from that, it depends on your own height.
The two tripods you listed are pretty short at their maximum height (and maximum height means least stability), so that means you’ll be stooping over unless YOU are very short, too.
Your back won’t be happy after a while of such bending over.
