Image stabilization is important?
I want a Canon Rebel XTi, but this guy always tells me a waste of money (unless I I make a tripod around) because they have "image stabilization". He recommended a Pentax, but I'm quite a fan of Canon. Do you? Want to saying you can keep the camera still. I have a friend who uses the XT and not have a tripod, and does it very well.
Just think about this: the image stabilization (Canon) and Vibration Reduction (Nikon) is a relatively new technology that has been around only in the last ten years. If it was so important, then How these photographers take millions of billions of photographs of over 150 years ago? Of course, virtual reality is or can be a very useful thing under certain circumstances. I used it successfully on my Nikon D200. But VR and pictures are not good – good photographers make good pictures. Personally, I think it will be good for you to learn about a device that does not have this feature, so you have to make decisions about opening shutter speed face to face ISO and realize that many things are a compromise. Then, once you ready to "graduate" to a newer, better camera, you really appreciate what VR is and has to offer.
