compare 12x lens digital camera with 300mm lens, which will contribute to gaining more?

I have a Nikon N60 SLR with a zoom of 300 mm and I considering a digital as they have the 12x optical image stabilizer. will be 12x brings me as close as 300 mm?

A 12x optical zoom is approximately equivalent to a 420mm. You may consider buying a Nikon digital SLR camera as the lens can be compatible with it.
