mac camcorder support
Can you edit .m2ts files on a mac?
Am I right in believing that final cut does not support this type of file? Is their any editing software for mac that can edit using this raw file without conversion (in the same way sony vegas does for pc).
I really want to buy a mac, and I would if they could edit with this raw file.
Answers are most appreciated. 
(I use a HD sony camcorder).
.m2ts is a HD MPEG2 file that’s used on bluray or AVCHD. and mostly supported ONLY by Sony. (sony was notorious for creating closed formats and software) and currently sony does NOT make Mac software that supports it (see note at bottom)
iMovie and final cut can import the file from a player via streaming but not open the files from direct import. this discussion has been on http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1289171

you can convert them into OPEN files using several 3rd party programs. the current (4) final Cut Pro can edit MPEG2 and export it but the basic one does not iMovie as MPEG2 is a professional format and not a consumer one (like JPEG2000 almost no system supports that either).
Note: Sony was for a long time anti-apple due to some history when apple stopped them from making Mac OS clone computers (they were calling back to themselves only) so for a long period they went anti-mac but are slowly opening up their software to create mac versions of their software but only for their more established devices – they have even started to adopt the ipod dock over the Walkman so it should be some time before they start fully supporting Macs..
