Mac users, how would you rate the Flip video camcorder?
On a scale of 1 (very bad) to 10 (excellent) how is the image and sound quality?
I’m hesitant to buy one. By the way I’m no techno pro but I already know about the conversion problem and how to fix it.
Your advice is greatly appreciated!
3, maybe less… if lighting conditions are good (video with this camcorder is poor in low light) and sound quality is fine if you are near the audio source and it is not really loud and not really soft.
Not recommended for recording bands – with or without amplified instruments or anything else loud. Not recommended for shooting in low-light – it will be very grainy.

so iMovie can deal with the very highly compressed MPEG2 video these tiny cameras capture… You said you already know about this – so that is good.
For just a little more, you can get a REAL camcorder like the Canon ZR800. It won’t do too well with the loud audio, either, but it will do a lot better in the low light because it has a bigger imaging chip and bigger lens to capture more light… then all you need is a 4-pin to 6-pin firewire cable to connect to your Mac. (The only Mac without a firewire400 port is the new MacBook Air.)
