Finder Instruction
anybody know how i can make a human detection system at home?
i need to make a machine to detect humans. it needs to be able to tell me were people are and how far away and in what direction and preferably the information would be shown on a screen(small lcd). i was thinking maybe ultrasound or maybe IR wired with an acoustic or laser range finder but i have no idea how to wire these sort of things or were to get the parts needed. does anybody know were i can find detailed instructions on how to make something like this?
You can do this with cameras and software that Microsoft has developed. I saw a video one time of a guy who had developed a gun that would track moving targets and fire his gun at them. It tracked them using a camera that could rotate. Take a similar setup and feed the cameras output into a software package to pick up faces or other types of color. This is called a Sentry Gun:

This system would not work well at night, however, if you could illuminate your area it could. If you were in the dark and wanted to tell who was around, I would go with night vision goggles and stay in the dark.
