camcorder guide

I need a 3 CDD MiniDV, Mini DVD or a DVD camcorder. Can anyone lead me to a good (first!) Model?
I'm considering the Panasonic VDR-D300. I intend to make short films with the video camera, which means editing. I only know what my other options are. So hit me with everything I've found!
To edit a DVD of the camera is out of question. Get MiniDV camera, a G300 is very good, GS400 is even better (but you can find these on eBay now), which provides prosumer level of manual features. You can also get a GS500, but really not very good compared with a GS400, and has fewer features. If you have around $ 1500, you can go for a Canon GL2 (off eBay), or you could get a GS400 with a microphone (and perhaps software), lights and filters and lentils. BTW, all previous models are Panasonic, with the exception of the GL2. Id say The GL2 has better glass, size (if you want to look pro), manual functions, LANC terminal and an optical zoom and CCD, but the GS400 is smaller (if you want be more discreet) and a native 16:9 chip and is much cheaper. Hope this helps!
