Underused 8mm camcorder not working….?

I have an 8mm RCA camcorder that’s about 10 years old. It worked when we last tried it, several years ago. However, now it doesn’t seem to be able to sense the cassette in the cartridge (keeps wanting to open and eject). I want to be able to use it at least once more, so I can record some very precious 8mm cassettes onto VHS tape. I’m suspecting a sensor needs cleaning. Can anyone tell me how to correct this?
What is the cost for cleaning?
